Basic & Preventive Information on ZIKA Virus



Zika Virus and Its Prevention


Zika virus is a disease caused by virus transmitted through aedes mosquitoes which is causing dengue, chickengunya and yellow fever. These aedes mosquitoes bite during morning, late afternoon and evening.


Symptoms:
Infected persons may experience
  • Mild fever
  • Joint pains
  • Skin Rashes
  • Muscle pain & head ache
  • Conjuctivities (Red Eyes)
If pregnant women affects with zika virus may lead to birth of microcephalus baby.

Preventive Measures:
  • Avoid mosquito bites.
  • Sleep under mosquito bed nets.
  • Wear long sleeved shirts & pants, preferably light colored clothes.
  • Adults can use insect repellent .
  • While applying insect repellent to children, first adult should apply spray on your hands then apply to children.
  • Do not use insect repellent on babies under 2months of age.
  • Dress your child with clothings that covers full arms & legs.
  • Clean & cover containers that can hold water such as buckets, flower pots or tyres where mosquitoes can breed are removed.
