Exclusive Interview with Mrs.Sunanda Prabhu - Importance of Yoga in day to day life– on the occasion of International Yoga Day

Yoga at its core embodies the science of attaining a conscious state of mind which is in tune with, constantly active and changing universe which is in a boundless and eternal form. Yoga is to constantly seek from as big as universe which enables finding and understanding the truth of connect of humans to universe.

Yoga is not just about practising the postures and mudras, but it is to do with the life itself to be lived.

WHY IS YOGA IMPORTANT

Ancient wisdom, philosophy, science, technologies have taken many transformations with time and have tried retaining the few facets of benefit it offers for various modern day living issues. People have found in simpler manner how these ancient wisdoms can be made as simple applications to solve few problems we face in daily life.

So there born the modern day Yoga, taking out the essence of rejuvenating benefits it offers by practicing asana, pranayama, mudra, chakra, mantra, kirtana, dhyana, samadhi, Nirvana.

Is Yoga needed for everyone ?

Yoga is not only for yogis, it is a way of healthy lifestyle, if practised under the  guidance of a guru then you can keep yourselves  fit physically  and  mentally.

In the occasion  of  INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY I would like to present you  an exclusive  interview  with  Mrs. Sunanda Prabhu, a multifaceted person  who  is a yoga teacher, writer, beautician, teacher, singer and a mother of  two. Sunanda Prabhu is well known in the field of kannada literacy  world.
 She was born and brought up in Kerala for a kannadaiga couple. She had her primary and secondary  education in malayalam  medium. Then the family moved back to Bangalore and she learned kannada and completed her graduation, and now she is on her way to get kannada M.A . She has published many books in Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi & English. Let’s talk deep about yoga and know the facts..........with Mrs. Sunanda Prabhu.


Please tell us more about yourselves and where and how you have started yoga?

I am from Bangalore. Graduate in Hindi M.A., B.Ed and pursuing Kannada M.A. currently. I write stories and poems in Malayalam, Hindi and Kannada. I used to go to Yoga classes in my teenage on the dream of becoming slim. I stopped it after getting married. I started my own beauty parlour and started working as a beautician there, but all the hard work affected my health. Back pain and neck pain haunted me. I became bed ridden. Even after continuous medication it as no better. AT that point my best friend suggested me to attend yoga classes. As I was unable to go out, the teacher used to come home to teach yoga. After that I was recovered 75%. Then I learnt yoga at SVYASA ( Swami Vivekananda Yoga Institute). This cured me completely and I started practising yoga regularly.

What are the different types of yoga ?

Classical yoga, astanga yoga, Hata yoga, Kundilini etc to name few.

Why is yoga and who can practise?

Yoga is for good health both mentally and physically. Anyone either young or old can practice yoga, Even children can practice.

Can we practice yoga by reading books or through internet?

It is good to be learned under the guidance of a Guru rather from reading books or internet. For much detailed information you can always read books and internet help.

Can women practice yoga?

Definitely !!! Women should practice yoga. Women work very hard and stressed a lot more than Men. Therefore they get health issues. Limited practice of yoga helps in weight management and health management. Yoga can answer to any menopause related health issues.

Is it OK to practice it during Menstruation?

During “periods” only few asanas can be practised. Every women is different. If you are not in much pain during the menstruation, then go ahead and practice yoga.

What are the benefits of yoga?

There are many, good physical and mental health with peace of life and weight management.

Is yoga limited to Hindus?

Yoga has no relation with caste or religion. Any human can practice yoga.

What is Pranayama ? How important is that ? Can u Breif us more about pranayama?


Pranayama was found by Pathanjali Maharshi. According to them, Breathing, Blood circulation, Digestive system, and Nerves system together constitute pranamayakosha. Pranayama is required to balance this Pranamayakosha. Due to the advanced competitive world the people undergo lot of stress and they lose their balance. People suffer from nerve related and blood related problems, they can be cured through regular and correct practice of pranayama.

Can children practice yoga?

Yes they can, but limited asanas.

What are the impacts of yoga on body and mind?

Results in Mind- Body balance and good health. Yoga does more than burn calories and tone muscles. It's a total mind-body workout that combines strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation or relaxation.

What are the advantages of yoga over other types of workouts?

During other workouts, only the body gets exercised and results in quick relaxation. But Yoga provides deep relaxation and the mind too gets relaxed. No exercise is enduring as yoga, it’s been around for more than 5000 years.

Few strong reasons why someone practice it?

Good health, weight management and relaxation.

What has yoga added to your life?

Yoga gave me good health, strong mind and strong immunity power.
